Well, I’m not deliriously happy with this new look, but it’s a start, and at least I’ve got the columns back, and you can see recent comments without scrolling to the bottom of the page.
More to come as I rebuild.

Change is good! I’ll get used to it 🙂

Not too happy with it either. Was re-installing or changing your theme the only solution to the right column at the bottom of your page problem? Might this help? http://faq.wordpress.com/2008/05/30/why-is-my-sidebar-at-the-bottom-of-my-posts/

Innermore, thanks for the hint. I did some experimenting, and learned that it is the post on the Marines who stopped a thief that was causing the problem. But unlike the the suggestion in the article your referenced, there was no graphic or other extra wide presentation. It was just a standard text quote, not a pdf image or something, and was completely unremarkable. I do this sort of thing all the time without trouble.
So I’m pretty confused. But, at least, I know what to look for next time.
So thanks, Innermore. When I get a minute, I may return to the other appearance, although I do like a couple of the features this current setup provides, including flip menu access to archives by month/year, and flip menu access to categories. It looks a little cleaner, I think.
But I did like the overall appearance of the old look. Anyone else got an opinion?

I like this scheme much better. It is easier on the eye and more fitting for the “fire” of your posts. I did like the logo you had with the other scheme. It would look great here if you, IMHO, were to fade the notes in the background and use the same this red for the title. Just a thought.

sounds to me like css generated jibberish. a stray div tag or some such. good to see the old

Dunno… I looked at the html of the “Marines” post that was causing the problem, and there was nothing unusual, just a simple “a href” quote and link with blockquote, no div tags or anything at all. So count me ignorant, but glad it’s fixed.

are you running the WordPress webapp on a web browser? if so, you are copy/pasting to and from wysiwyg and may not see some tags. to avoid this, consider running Firefox and install this add-on:

I use Firefox, but usually create posts using Scribefire, a Firefox plug-in for blogging. Anyway, the wordpress webapp has both wysiwyg and html views, and the html view appears to show me identical code to when I open a post in Scribefire’s html view.
I’ll check out the link.
