Global government? Oh, joy

Gore: Cap-and-Trade Will Bring Global Government

Former Vice President Al Gore told a British conference on the environment that the energy tax under the so-called cap-and-trade legislation in Congress would bring about global governance.

Speaking at the Smith School World Forum on Enterprise and the Environment in Oxford, England, Gore said the United States is responding to the threat of global warming with the cap-and-trade legislation, Times Online reported.

“Just two weeks ago, the House of Representatives passed the Waxman-Markey climate bill,” Gore told the conference. “[This is] very much a step in the right direction. It achieves real reductions below the 1990 base level by 2020, and that is the threshold that many have said will dramatically increase the prospects for success.”

Gore acknowledged that the bill includes a carbon tax that President Barack Obama supports and is helping to push through the Senate.

“For all of its flaws, [it] does put a price on carbon,” he admitted.

Gore, whose film documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth,” on the claims of global warming won him praise from environmentalists, told the forum that Obama had secured billions of dollars from Congress for renewable energy work.

But, “It is the awareness itself that will drive the change,” he said. “And one of the ways it will drive the change is through global governnance and global agreements.”

Organists have to learn to play the pedals, but this is ridiculous… in a good way.

Imagine Bach seeing this.

China murders Falun Gong practitioners

Category: China,religionharmonicminer @ 10:05 am

Falun Gong Human Rights Working Group

It is now clear that the Beijing Olympics Games did not help to improve human rights in China.

On the contrary, unknown thousands of innocent people have fallen victim to the Beijing Olympics. Knowing that it had the Olympics secured, the Chinese regime not only refused to honor the promise it made to improve human rights when it bid for the 2008 Olympic Games[1], but it used the Olympics’ security as a pretext to apprehend, torture, and murder people who had already suffered prolonged human rights violations in China.

One group of victims that the Chinese regime particularly targeted in the year leading up to the Beijing Olympics is Falun Gong practitioners[2]. The Chinese regime has consistently denied persecution of other groups, but has publicly vowed to “eradicate” Falun Gong. In April 2007, a secret document of the Public Security Department listed Falun Gong among 11 groups that were to be monitored and prohibited from attending the Olympics[3]. In February 2008, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad issued an internal instruction to “strictly monitor and control Falun Gong.” Following these instructions, Chinese authorities all over the country intensified the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

In the following pages, we document the names and details of the arrest of over 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners in the name of the Beijing Olympics’ security. To fit within a reasonable space, we provide only a small number of the descriptions of how these victims have been violently and even fatally abused in custody. Because of the Chinese regime’s restrictions on the flow of information, the atrocities are feared to be much worse.

Much more at the link above, including the opportunity to sign a petition.

There is also some commentary on the parallels between dealing with China now, and the North dealing with the South for slavery produced goods before the Civil War. I’m still mulling it over… but it is challenging. I encourage you to read it all.

Why we’re losing: we brought a knife to gun fight

Category: media,Palin,politics,Republicanharmonicminer @ 9:00 am

You really have to read this whole thing. But here’s a taste.

I Still Hate You, Sarah Palin

One of the most terrifying moments of my political life came last summer at the Republican convention in St. Paul. No, I don’t mean seeing John McCain careering around the Xcel Energy Center like Eyegore in Young Frankenstein, his face frozen in a Lon Chaney Sr. rictus grin as he reached across the aisle to his erstwhile friends in the media and got his hand bitten off. Rather, I’m referring to the aftermath of Sarah Palin’s outrageous acceptance speech, which whipped up the Rotary Club delegates into a frenzy of white-boy fury that not even heckling by a brave Code Pink embed could deter. Truly a fascist classic and one that sent shivers down our collectivist spines.

Even worse was the glaze of horror on the phizzes of the assembled heroes of the Mainstream Media. Andrea Mitchell, yes, the very same Andrea Mitchell, NBC News, Washington, whose employer saw no conflict of interest at all when she married then Fed pooh-bah Alan Greenspan, stood there gaping like a frog while the rest of the assembled Finemans and Matthewses and Olbermanns scurried around like roaches when the light gets turned on: What the hell just hit us? For one horrible moment, it looked as if the carefully crafted plans of David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel, George Soros, and the Second Chief Directorate, first department, of the old KGB were about to gang agley.

Really, read the whole thing at the link above. Then start planning something. Anything.

Courage

Category: Iranharmonicminer @ 5:30 pm

I was asked to do something today that took a small amount of courage. Not a huge big deal, I hope, but some risk is involved. I did it. The result will become clearer as time goes on. The protestors in Iran gave me an object lesson in courage:

The arbitrariness of anti-trust law

Category: capitalism,Democrat,economy,government,Obamaharmonicminer @ 8:59 am

In a takedown of the Obama adminstration’s apparent attempt to use its legal howitzer, anti-trust chief Christine Varley, to prevent the airline industry from doing mergers that would save it, keep it out of bankruptcy, preserve jobs, and allow it to continue to provide service for consumers, Holman Jenkins asks the question, Does Obama Want to Own the Airlines? While describing the Justice Department’s move to block mergers that would save troubled corporations, in the guise of protecting the public from evil monopolies, he makes this trenchant comment:

Even now, she has turned her attention from airlines to the mobile-phone business on the theory that any industry that hasn’t collapsed into government receivership must be doing something wrong.

It’s all worth reading.

And for background in the sorry history of anti-trust law, you might want to read this.  Just remember a simple principle: whenever the government gets involved, prices go up, supply goes down, and the only winners are the bureaucrats and successful lobbyists who wangle exceptions for their companies…  all the while pretending that they’re protecting the free market and competition.

For now, let’s just say this.  If you’re too successful and capture a larger share of the market than your competitors, look out; the feds are coming for you.  If you’re struggling, and need to merge with some of your competitors in order to stay in business, create economies of scale that allow more efficient operation, and provide a service or product that the public will buy at a price you can sell it, look out.  The feds are coming for you, too.

Basically, it’s simple.  The feds would rather own you than see you succeed.

Clear?

They have the only monopoly that matters, and they intend to keep it.

Honduras & The Rule Of Law

Category: appeasementamuzikman @ 7:43 pm

To hear our mainstream media one would think a military coup in Honduras has ousted a democratically elected president.  But the truth is not so simple nor shallow. Read this and ask yourself why our government is siding with the likes of the Castro brothers and Hugo Chavez.

Obama’s real values on display?

Category: Uncategorizedharmonicminer @ 9:18 am

If I wrote this, someone might call me a racist, so I’ll leave it up to a Christian lady of proper pigmentation to make some very important points.  Read it all.  Then pray for our president to have his eyes opened.

Star Parker : When color trumps Christianity

President Obama hosted a reception at the White House celebrating LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Pride month. Black Christians should take note and learn a few things about our black President.

As they say, we are what we do.

It tells us something that Mr. Obama had no time to host an event for the National Day of Prayer.

Nor did he have time to accept the invitation to convey greetings and a few remarks to the couple hundred thousand who came to Washington, as they do every January, for the March for Life.

However, the LGBT Pride event did make it onto the president’s busy schedule.
