Ken Blackwell points out the obvious, that the election of president-elect Obama signals a Post–Racial Preference America.
Two things are evident from the 2008 election. The first is that the American people voted for change, embodied in President-Elect Barack Obama. The second is that this is still a center-right country, shown by the success of traditional values ballot initiatives. This center-right orientation will compel our new president-elect to make difficult choices next year, especially regarding racial preferences.

Really? So because 4 anti-gay measures passed, that means that the country is still “center-right?” I mean, lets just ignore all of the other measures that didn’t go along with “traditional values,” and lets just ignore the significant pickups in the House, Senate, and in local races around the country.
Center-right. Heh.

Either way, Dave: if you believe the country is now “center-left”, then we still have no need of diversity and affirmative action programs that involve counting numbers of colored noses or lipstick users, because if we’re now mostly center-left, of course racism and sexism are gone as a major issue in public life, since everyone knows you nice lefties aren’t racist or sexist.
Of course, you are tradition-phobic and conservaphobic, not to mention fetus-phobic and freedom-phobic, as well as Christophobic … but those particular phobias are not yet classified as hate speech, are they?
After all, even diversity can be carried too far.

Huh? First of all… diversity and affirmative action programs have nothing to do with whoever is currently in charge, or where on the political spectrum the country currently lies. Second, yes, there are “lefties” who are racist or sexist.
You are right… I hate tradition, conservatives, fetuses, freedom, and Christ.
Stay classy.

Dave, Dave…. can’t you take a little hyperbole? I’m quite sure that if you saw a fetus in the street that had just miraculously survived an abortion, you wouldn’t swerve to run over it. And I’m fairly sure that you sing Happy Birthday at birthday parties, so you’re not a complete tradition mocker.
But clearly all the lefties voted for Obama and would have voted for Hillary… so surely they aren’t racist or sexist, right?
Which just leaves us unreconstructed right-leaning racist/sexist/homophobes to be inducted into re-education camps, come the revolution.
What, you think they’re an organic part of society? Of COURSE they are affected by political leadership, and political will. But the case stands that the argument for quotas, preferences, et. al., is weakened by the fact that we elected Obama, and the conservatives did not riot in the streets about it (which WAS threatened as an outcome if he lost, and is now being done by GLBT radicals because Prop 8 won.). Conservatives have mostly quietly gone about their business, and started planning for the next political campaigns, and most have prayed for Obama, I think.
If you mean there are lefties who hate whites, and hate men, and especially hate white men, I’d have to agree. But I doubt that’s what you meant. So, name a lefty or two you think is racist or sexist, so I have some idea of what you mean.
